THE KEGEL FIX: Recharging Female Pelvic, Sexual and Urinary Health

Bergen Urological is pleased to announce the 2016 release of Dr. Andrew Siegel’s new book: THE KEGEL FIX: Recharging Female Pelvic, Sexual and Urinary Health, published by Rogue Wave Press.

THE KEGEL FIX: Recharging Female Pelvic, Sexual and Urinary Health

In his new book, Dr. Siegel unveils the largely unrecognized powers of the mysterious female pelvic floor muscles and how to harness their potential.

In the 1940’s, Dr. Arnold Kegel popularized exercises of the female pelvic floor muscles to improve urinary and sexual health after childbirth, recognizing that these muscles are vital to female genital-urinary health, serving an essential role in pelvic support, sexual, urinary, and bowel function.

As with all skeletal muscles, the pelvic muscles are subject to adaptation and applied exercise can enhance their strength, power tone, and endurance. Pelvic floor conditioning is a first-line, non-invasive approach that is simple and safe and can be helpful in improving as well as preventing the following pelvic floor dysfunctions: pelvic organ prolapse and vaginal laxity (looseness); sexual issues; stress urinary incontinence; overactive bladder; overactive bowel; and pelvic pain due to tension myalgia of the pelvic floor muscles.

Many women have limited knowledge about the pelvic floor muscles and how to recognize their own pelvic muscles since they are hidden and internal muscles. Dr. Siegel has always been astonished that even many nurses, personal trainers and physical therapists have difficulty identifying their own pelvic floor muscles. Another problem is that easy-to-follow pelvic exercise programs or well-designed means of enabling pelvic exercises to improve pelvic floor health have been sorely lacking in availability. Most programs lack in guidance, feedback and rigor, demand little time and effort and often ignore the benefit of resistance, accounting for their ineffectiveness. With women often unable to identify their pelvic muscles or properly perform the training, outcomes are less than favorable and the frustration level and high abandonment rate with these regimens is hardly surprising. Thus, Kegel pelvic floor muscle training has been an often ignored, neglected, misunderstood, under-respected and under-exploited resource.

THE KEGEL FIX makes it crystal clear how to identify the pelvic muscles and properly train them. Dr. Siegel introduces new age, next generation Kegel exercises customized and tailored to improve and help prevent the aforementioned pelvic dysfunctions. You will be empowered from within as you learn to “snap, clench, and squeeze” your way to a healthy, fit and toned vagina and pelvic floor, providing benefits from bedroom to bathroom. Getting beyond conditioning your pelvic muscles, you will be shown how to put the pelvic training into real-life action and practical use with “Kegels-on-demand” in order to improve your quality of life.
